It's a cliché but I love the energy that Paris gives me. I'm really excited about the Paris trip I planned with a dear friend for next April. I kind of didn't share a single picture of the day I spent in Paris in December with my boyfriend.. Sorry. There was snot all over in 90% of them. That's why. I have this infallible talent of falling sick the day before I take off for a city trip.. I did it in Rome, I did it in Paris, I managed to do it on my Summer trip to Barcelona even - I've catched a bloody cold in half of the European cities! Anyway, I'm rambling.. Here's the remaining 10% of the pictures I made during our short stay there.We haven't done anything particularly special: we had a long walk along the Seine river starting at the Notre Dâme and we ended up at le Tour Eiffel, mon dieu! Our visit at the Eiffel tower didn't last very long since the snot factor was becoming too much of a burden.. And so we warmed up in a cute lunchroom (further on), after which we did some shopping in the bigger malls of Paris.

A BIG must-visit is this lunchroom called La Maison Angelina. It's a ten minute walk from Le Musée de Louvre.. And therefore insanely expensive. I mean, I would love to believe that the sandwiches over at Angelina have been made by the finest of chefs, but we skipped the 19 euros treat anyway, hehe. I'd suggest you'd only go with the divine Le chocolat chaud à l’ancienne dit “l’Africain” - quite a mouthful, I know - but it's basically hot chocolate which tastes like liquid brownie cake. Which is GOOD in my books. Definitely going to get that off the menu in two months again, can't wait ♥

PS. I think I'm fi-nal-ly getting there with the layout renovations: right now it's frilly and cute but clean and light at the same time. I think the rage is finally calming down a bit guys. I pwomise I won't be changing too much of the layout anymore for some time, it would only put us out of balance, no?

HELLO WORLD OF THE LIVING

Hell yeah, I returned to the world of the living! My internship is finally over and now I have a shitload to do, for instance I'm planning a trip to Paris as we speak. Initially I would be going to Stockholm with a good friend but after having to suffer minus-14 degree weather for a week now we decided to look for something more... Not so.. North of where we live already.

I am going to return to my travel plans right now and will leave you with some antique pictures from three months ago (damn me, you'll probably be seeing this month's pictures in about a season or two) and a rather antique classic song of the day to team it up with. Laterrr.

I dislike that I often am too lazy to make wardrobe posts like these. Every two, three months I remember about this kind of category and decide to give it a go again - to come to the conclusion that I am horribly commercial.. More commercial than I would like to believe I am. I have collected a shitload of new stuff to show you and these items are just a humble fraction of my latest collection of fashionable needed-to-buy-its..

1. As you can see I finally got my hands on the ZARA floral blouse that every (e-v-e-r-y!) blogger seems to have as well. Seriously, that blouse hasn't been sold to a single normal person in it's entire history of existence - an army of bloggers snatched it away with their impeccable sensors for fashion musthaves, raah! Beat that, you mere mortals! I clearly have a sensor of dubious quality because it took me months to track down what seemed like the last blouse left in the entire country.. But it was on sale! It perfectly fits my style blahblah. Happy happy happy cloud.

2. Same goes for the ZARA polka dotted blouse that I bought myself for my birthday in December along with the 3. Topshop heels I got on humongous sale, love the chunky heel.

I curse the day that I bought those 4. gorgeous patent brogues from H&M Trend, they are awkward and pretty at the same time - and surprisingly enough a pain to walk in. Will have to work on that (2 inches thick foam protectors for my fragile feet perhaps?)

5. Got my very first pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses from zhe boyfriend for my birthday! The content of the little box will remain a mystery for some time.. I got the 6. bracelet at H&M last week and it's become a classic staple already. Love it.

7. And last but not least.. This thrifted (3,-!) blouse in a perfect tone of 'barely there light grey' will serve as a victim for a DIY that is yet to be determined.. Have several ideas in mind. More on that soon.

I felt like sharing this amazing trend that I picked up.. Finally sporting a white-on-off-white outfit! At least... In this great off-white H&M Trend fuzzy sweater and a crispy white doctor's coat, that is. I am having a student internship at a hospital in Amsterdam and will be done by the end of the month. So I won't be attending much of the upcoming Amsterdam Fashion Week for that matter. But at least I get the chance to experiment with my future obligatory job clothes, righty?! It truly is a challenge to create a wow-ing outfit every day that matches those clinical white tones.. Have never been much of a white-lover but I will have to get used to it I guess. Ha ha.

Will have another post up tonight on some new items I got in the past months..!

Sooo, here is my first post after my break. I thought I had to put back some colour into zhe blog after all the sad things and mindfulness - I am not really suited for the job of a mental coach and such.. The llama sporting a trendy tangerine scarf put a gracious smile* to my face and reminded me of some photos with orange details that still awaited publication. So here you go!

Life's still hard and such but I think I should have gotten a little bit more experienced by now - haven't I learned anything from our beloved friends over at As the World Turns, Oprah and, for Llama's sake, Glee!? No seriously, those shows really aren't my cup of tea but I guess that there's a moral of the story in all of them - they're all American shows after all - and here it is: life will never be easy. It may have its glorious moments, but no one will ever pass through life without having suffered some bumps in the road. But what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I got those sayings from yet an American movie, by the way. This one is actually copywrited by me: the fact that life has it's bumps in the road doesn't mean that it's not worth living.

I have promised myself to appreciate the beautiful little things in life again - and today it was all about the colour orange. My new zen-ish approach at life, to be continued..

* Actually I hysterically grinned in that ugly way you only do whenever you're alone - aka the Gnarly Grin. Not an image I am willing to share with you. So for your own sake I decided to adopt elegant phrases like 'it put a Prodent-ad-worthy smile to my face' and 'my heart skipped an elegant little beat'. Every blogger seems to use these two phrases to express their enthusiasm about something. I guess that blogging involves smiling permanently at the computer screen - and having chronic heart arrythmias. Hah! I'm glad I haven't lost my cynism during my break!

DELAY

Dear readers,

Although I promised you a big new refreshment of this website, a few things caused a delay last week. First off I was dealing with huge technical issues that resulted in unaccessibility to my website. It's fixed now (which is the reason why you are able to read this in the first place).
But this weekend something of huge proportions happened to a dear friend, she has gone through a terrible loss a few days ago and she's been on my mind a lot ever since. She knows it's about her the minute she reads this, and she knows that I'll be there for her.

The side effect has been that I haven't been much online these days. I'm rethinking a lot of things - I've been thinking about the fragility of human life, the importance of certain things and people in my own life. I came to the conclusion that I should be so much more thankful for everything in my daily life that I sometimes tend to take for granted - just like everyone does from time to time. The wonderful people like my parents and sisters, my boyfriend, my friends. The more trivial stupid things like my recently decorated room that feels like the perfect home right now. The book that I've been reading that has given me so many new insights. The blouse that I had been craving for ages, bought on sale.
Really taking the time to enjoy the things that make life worth it has been becoming more and more difficult in the fast and hectic life that we are expected to live, but the minute something heart-ripping happens it pulls you back in to reality to remind you of what's important.

It's a reminder to me that I should cherish everything I love. Some things end sooner than you wish for, how unjust that might seem. Reality can be the cruellest, and we'd better get used to that. Go give your parents a hug after reading this, take a minute to open the window and breathe in the cold winter air. Go out and feel alive & loving.. If only for a second. Because the moment you lose something, you will be left with memories and memories only - and it's best to collect as much as possible throughout time.

MOVING ON (IN THE SAME PLACE)

Now, if you have been following this blog for quite some time you must be used to these unannounced breaks of mine. I striked again with my habit!

A hiatus like this has always been a forecast for big changes - last time I took nearly a month off from the blog I changed the website name, altered the layout, improved the content. A hiatus like this was always a consequence of a kind of dissatisfaction with my work in here. I find it hard to put time and effort in things that don't inspire me enough, because I am eager to grow.
My soul needs to be nourished with the art, music, literature, fashion that it longs for in order to become the creative and passionate person that I want to become. The soul is like a sponge that should never dry up - a soul that lives without passion will become hard and crumbly and will eventually fall apart.

But despite this eagerness to learn, to grow, to live a passionate life, I might have to work on my New Year's resolutions. I need to realize that the things I am not satisfied with in my life can be changed by myself to a certain degree. If you lose your passion for something, you can either give up or look for a possibility for change.

I realized that I didn't take this blog along on my journey towards becoming the person I want to be - in fact, it hasn't really changed that much at all. I put this website in a new crispy clean jacket, but the static formula has stayed the same. And that caused the dissatisfaction. This blog used to be my platform to stimulate my creativity and diversity, and inspire you, my reader. But I have grown. I feel like I have much more to offer to myself - and to you. As mentioned above I am a person of habits, and I feel like this blog has gotten a little bit rusty. My New Year's resolution will be throwing those habits OUT. OF. THE. WINDOW. I don't know how you feel about all this, maybe you love coming here. But I have been envisioning something slightly different, and I think you'll love it as well.

I simply needed the distance from working on my own platform to realize all this. I think that I should be able to pull it off, to create something more unique, something to be proud of.

And last but not least, I wanted to thank you. Thank you for sticking with me, I know a lot of you have been following me for quite some time now and I just can't believe that you keep coming back to this website with your ever so supportive comments. THANK YOU. I am looking forward to seeing you in the next year as well - and maybe a bit sooner!

OUTFIT // Concept of Infinity for Charlotte Kan

So excited to show you this series I did in collaboration with Dutch designer Charlotte Kan!
We've come a long way until we could finally do this collab, I'd originally join her Play&Pose project during the summer edition of Amsterdam International Fashion Week but happened to be abroad at the time. So now, 6 months later, I finally got the chance to wear one of her fantastic, refreshing items!

I got to wear one of her most dynamic pieces, a thin jacket you can wear in multiple shapes by buttoning it up in various ways. Love how it's a droopy, chaotic jacket one moment and the next it's some kind of kimono. It might have been too cold for the foggy weather, but it was definitely worth the effort. Would love wearing this in warmer seasons.

Busy times, ladies, busy times. As we are speaking I have just returned to my home country after a rather short but fabulous weekend in Ghent, Belgium. And now I am going to get my hair cut - which means I will say goodbye to a wowing 2 inches of my hair... Pretty damn daring, no? EDIT: just cut my hair. You will be STUNNED (insert sarcasm tag). No seriously, I really, really should be thinking about a new hairdo! Any ideas? But we're getting off-topic.

This picture shows.. my back. But it's not just my back, it's my back intensely listening to Dutch designer Charlotte Kan. We will be collaborating on her so-called Play and Pose series slash collection, in collab with several Dutch bloggers, and I'm really excited to be playing around with one of her designs.. Experimenting with some colour.. In other words: how not to look like a freshly set up Christmas tree in green and red - by combining it with rich fabrics and earthy tones. I don't know what kind of look I was trying on the top picture btw - it's a bit of je ne sais quoi and a bit of deer in the headlights. We're in the Christmas mood, ladies and gentlemen!

STYLE IN SKETCHES // Iekeliene Stange

Made a new painting last night.. First time in years that I used traditional water colour paint in a sketch! Anyway, it's a portrait of the wonderful Dutch model Iekeliene Stange, wrapped up in a.. Well, it's a sleeping bag. It's the opening picture of an editorial from the Dutch Avant Garde called 'The New Nomad' - featuring puffy sleeping gear as dresses.

I still decided to put this erm, interesting sleeping bag outfit in the Style in Sketches section, because it would be typically Stange for her to dress up in such an original way in real life. Maybe I'll create an inspiration post evolving around her personal style, because her way of dressing would definitely deserve that. I hardly ever see her show up on blogs but she has a unique sense of fashion.

I used regular 4H to 6B graphite pencils for the sketch, outlined it with black POSCA acrylic markers and painted the whole thing with water colour paint. Finished off the highlights with a white POSCA acrylic fine liner.

Wore this outfit to a dinner night out with zhe boy last month. I was on the hunt for a burgundy coloured pair of jeans/trousers for a while.. It had to match perfectly with the jacket in order to give that ultimate Suit Illusion. But after months of fruitless searching, I suddenly realized that the perfect jeans had been laying under my bloody nose all the time..

I bought this pair of jeans for zhe boyfriend, back in 2008 when it was still really cool for guys to wear coloured skinny jeans.. Don't get me wrong, I have a weak spot for men in coloured trousers, but this stuff is SO. SKIN. TIGHT. I have come to realize why he never wore it (apart from the fact that he thought it was too gay... Which I don't consider to be a bad thing because my all of my gay friends are really stylish. Anyway, couldn't get that into his mind). I think we were still in that early stage of a relationship in which you can only say 'thank you! It's fantastic, it's great, oh my god it's too sweet of you!!!!' when your girlfriend slash boyfriend gives you a present - although you silently think 'damnit am I supposed to wear that?!' Sounds familiar?

Anyway, back to this particular post. Saw a really cute DIY on making yourself a bracelet out of a few twigs at a Pair and a Spare and decided to give it a try. Lovely idea but I think I did something fundamentally wrong on the gold painting job because the paint coming off within a few hours of wearing.. Ah well, I guess that's my fault. Still need to show you my epically failed paint-an-ugly-purple-chandelier-in-a-minimalistic-white-hue project. Erm, on second thought, not gonna show you haha.

Hardcore food porn to come your way, we had the most delicious dinner evahhrrr. But for now I'll need to get back to studying, much love. ♥

These shots were taken at the Artis Zoo in Amsterdam last month, in the butterfly gardens. Shame I didn't bring my own camera, because I think it's a challenge to try and capture wildlife at it's best. I tried telling the butterflies to hold their pose for a while, but that sadly enough works better on humans (most of the time). I didn't last too long in the Zoo though, I always get pretty itchy because most animals are obviously unhappy.

One day I will put on my ninja suit, and free those poor animals Madagascar style. Hiiaaaaaya!

Little Dragon - Summertearz

These pictures aren't the best of quality, but I still wanted to show you. Because this is probably the last time that I will be wearing this brand-new sweater out like it's supposed to be this year - with a bare back for that POW effect when you turn your back around.

That's why today's song is called Summertearz - I think I haven't gotten the best out of last season. I mean, I should have been wandering around in - and this is something I recently got out of an interview - what Michael Kors would call ovary length (in other words: SHORT) skirts and shorts while I still had the chance! Not that the weather has been this muy fantastico last Summer.. But now that my legs will freeze off the minute I even try to step out in those previously mentioned shorty items, I kind of regret not having gone through that slight bit of cold from the past months. My extremities are lacking sun (and so is my back since I got this shirt - it really wanted to get out of it's usual covered-ness all of a sudden D: )

Fall hasn't given me that Fall-ish feeling of wooly satisfaction yet - it has left me in a state of dissatisfaction about having to dress up in those itchy sweaters. Sadly enough, our Dutch Autumns aren't like the American kind. Those gorgeous and weird shorts-with-ankle-boots-and-a-thick-sweater outfits just. Don't. Work. Here.Which is booo.

SBTRKT ft Little Dragon - Wildfire

The Quest is finally over. I have spent a quarter of my life (which marks my entire Era of Becoming Aware of Fashion) looking for a hat that suits me, a hat that is stylish, on budget and - this was the crucial part - actually FITS me. Because ladies.. My head is humongous. I've been traumatized by the many times I tried on the perfect, on-trend, suits-me-great headgear at H&M.. Only to have it removed by the store manager with a crowbar.

Now, that last part isn't entirely true, but it indeed was a substantial problem that my head didn't fit into a size L hat. I tried, really - with this cute hat, also from H&M. It popped off my head every 5 minutes - not a pretty sight.

But now I have finally found the solution to master the evolutionary rules, I ignored the fact that Mother Nature didn't give me what I wanted, I ..... I will simply start wearing men's hats. Found this gorgeous vintage piece at a thrift store in Amsterdam.

The only thing I'm wondering.. Do they also have men's floppy hats?

Don't have any writing inspiration at the moment. Feel like my sense of humour has been drained out of my brain. That's an allegory, off course - my brain is fully intact dearies. That's why I had the illuminating idea to try out this dress in store, and add a touch of mustard to my all-pastel-and-grey-and-black wardrobe. It happens to be on-trend, but I like it because it's the perfect makes-your-blonde-hair-look-blonder colour without having to use any chemical garbage. I get that question a lot by the way - and yes, this is my natural hair colour. I inherited it from both my parents. My dad had this hilarious white blonde moustache back in the eighties.. Really really funny, but it was fashionable back in the days. His generation laughs at ours since it's cool to walk around in shoes like this (I call them dinosaur paws) and wear wigs as a bag (okay I must admit I love those as well). It's all a matter of perspective. I'm just hoping that mustard won't be laughed at within ten years, when we all wear futuristic aluminium suits or something.

(Maybe I shouldn't dramatize these allegories of mine, I'm actually pretty satisfied with this post.)

Some forgotten pictures from my trip to London. This is what I looked like in my attempt to dress original, comfortable and still citytrip-acceptable in practically the only weather-proof shirt and pants that were in my suitcase at the time.. I dragged all my awesome, long-sleeved striped or silk shirts and blouses and layering stuffz with me, my tight-fitting jeans, 6 pairs of socks... I don't know whoever said that the UK is rainy and cold because IT'S. A. BIG. FAT. LIE. I took all those items unworn with me to the Netherlands again. I took a leap of faith once with my longsleeve stripey shirt and damn did I regret that ha ha.

All in all, I discovered that it's okay to only have a few items with you on a holiday. Since I am a professional in the art of overpacking it was quite refreshing. It will be hard for me to try it out again deliberately though. I have been raised with the 'Do you have your coat with you? You'll get siccckkkk' remark from my mother, even when it was 30 degrees outside.. Doom scenarios would pop up if I wouldn't take my coat with me. Sweaty, sweaty childhood. (I do love you, mama.) (She actually reads my blog) Anyway, I have developed the habit to think of every possible weather condition whenever I pack my bags for a holiday ever since.

On another note, on my next trip I won't have to worry about these Issues. I'm brainstorming about going on a small trip to Stockholm with a friend and it's said to be really, really cold over there.. At least my mom won't have to worry about whether I will take my coat with me or not - that's a definite yes.

Bargain Shopping is my middle name. 16,40 euros is quite a steal for two brand new jewellery pieces, a vintage necklace and a pair of ZARA heels that have only been worn once at a photoshoot.. While the latter originally costed about 120 euros in store. Gasp.

It's almost criminal, these kind of steals. And with gold as the perfect partner in crime (Get it? God I'm so hilarious..) for black this season, I'm all set for Fall in terms of accessories. I'm afraid I will have to keep the heels locked up (It doesn't stop! Rahhh) for the coming two seasons though, since I don't expect the sun to show up last-minute in these few days left of Summer..

PS. What do you think of the new layout? I did a pretty good job on the minimalism thing I was talking about earlier on amirite? Hah-hahh!! No seriously, feedback is much welcome!

So, first post by the New Me. Since I'm still working on the new layout (while it's the most minimalistic thing ever - but that's probably the most challenging thing I could think of.. read on) I'm hoping that this simply is a period of habituation. Soon I will be in balance with myself, my style and my blog. Carrying out a minimalistic style has been trending ever since Phoebe Philo started sending out her models on the Céline runway in 2010, and I must say that it has always sounded good to me. I mean, it must be pleasantly serene in your brain whenever you wake up in an all white room every morning. No gaudy items crying out for attention, causing your rod and cone cells to scream for some visual peace the minute you open your eyes. Your camel, white and black coloured wardrobe is smiling calmly at ya, waiting for you to pick two, three items at a maximum to wear that day. Just about perfect. No stress.

For me though, there is one problem: I AM A SUCKER for everything that is covered in lace, cute bows and I love wearing 324738247 pieces of jewellery at the same time. Not to mention that I always crave for layer over layer over layer etc. ... I just can't help it. I start out with an all black palette, and I end up stacking silver and gold jewellery on top of each other, wearing mint nail polish and red lipstick at the same time.. And in the end I ditch the cool black T-shirt for a ruffle-y pastel top instead. We're back to square one.

It's the same with this set of cuffs from H&M. It's so epically cool and sooo minimalistic, that it's been popping up at every fashion blog. Combining my pair of cuffs with a floor-sweeping dress made out of powder pink lace must be some kind of profanation. But as I said - I just can't help it.

At least this ensemble contained some minimalism considering the fact that it's just one layer. (Being it that way because it was insanely hot at the time doesn't matter.) And the layout that's coming up will be the perfect blank canvas for my jewellery and layering indulging.

Hello dearies, it's been ages once again! What can I say, I am just a horrible thing when it comes to doing things regularly. Like following a series on TV, watering my plants, phoning my friends every once in a while, putting up blogposts on a regular basis..

This behaviour surely costs me a lot of subjects to talk about.. Whenever I yell 'Shut up about who got eliminated at Masterchef Australia this week, haven't seen the show yet rah rah RAH!!' like a crazy person, it might cause some awkward and slightly shocked silences.. I simply love that show, damnit! The lack of flower-watering probably brings me a lot of negative vegetable karma (?), and trying to donate my floral friends to the buddies I neglected by not phoning them doesn't help that much either.. 'Here, have this wonderful, erm, plant! Yes, off course it's supposed to be brown and arrid, it's a.. Desert plant!...' I think I'll buy some cacti next time.

In other words, by being the chaotic multi-tasking mess I am I cause myself a lot of problems. This blog is one of them. Luckily, it's not a threat to my social life like the phone-drama. But it surely is something I feel guilty about - I think I don't allow myself to do something I love, because I always have something to do that's more important. But, you see, the thing of life is (LIFE LESSON 1): it's short. I decided that I really need to take a step back, lower my pace and look around a bit. Enjoy the moment, enjoy the stuff I love. If I would do so, I would notice that my plants are on the edge of dying a slow and thirstful death on time. And I would take the 30 seconds it takes to give them a shot of H2O. Plants happy, me happy. And I think that it's the same with my dessicated little blog. A little bit of time and love and it will florish again, and in the end it will be worth the effort for myself as well.

Taking this into consideration, I am now busy creating a fresh new layout, I'm working on a give-away collaboration and there's a LOT OF FASHION COMING UP. LOTS LOTS LOTS! Wearing an antique orchestra jacket, old ZARA skirt, vintage leather belt via my mommy's closet, Topshop Sakura heels and vintage boxy bag

I dived up this antique 1940's orchestra jacquet out from a pile of about 15 identical jackets. One by one hand stitched, loved and worn about 70 years ago. My jacket was the only one that came close to my size - the rest of them were way too big as they were all men's jackets. The label says it's been manufactured by the Franz Kuranda atelier in Wien, Österreich. I don't think I have ever owned a piece of clothing this unique, and full of stories.

And I hope I'll be able to cherish it for seven decades more.

On another note, I wanted to say that I feel extremely shocked and aggravated by the events occured on the Pukkelpop festival in my neighbour country, Belgium. I think it struck me twice as hard since I was enjoying my time on a festival myself at the same time..

I realized that you still haven't seen the item that I had mysterically featured earlier. Shame! So here you go, a brand new outfit post featuring my pastel Zara kimono. Ladies, I'm in love! The colour's perfect, and I have always had a love for the Asian style of clothing. The only thing is that the style clashes with my hair colour, which is far from Asian-like. Which is why I immediately bought this soft-coloured item the minute I saw it: it kind of blends in with the hair a bit.

The pictures were taken at a local flea market in Amsterdam, had a meeting with a bunch of lovelies. Thanks for the lovely day Sabrina, Hazal, Cana, Helena, Angela, Lotte and Zafiera!

Old pictures just seem to keep on popping up. I took these photos a few months back at a restaurant called Lute, a place of great aesthetic and culinar beauty.

In the Netherlands, we have this event called Restaurantweek, which is something organised by multiple (Michelin star) restaurants. Whenever signing up, you get the chance to have dinner at the most fabulous restaurants for really small prices. I attend it every year with my boyfriend, and this year we ended up at this restaurant.

Lute is situated in an old explosives factory - you can really tell by some pictures that I will be showing somewhere later on this week! The original industrial look of the location, the exquisite food and the lovely staff members were an interesting contrast. Truely inspirational.

I recently discovered that the pretty well-known webshop Zalando has much more to offer than just shoes. I was suprised by the broad collection of dresses, bags and accessories and decided to put together some inspirational outfits with their items.

For me, it's all about white and light colours this summer. I love the elegance of clothing that's been crafted from white luxurious fabrics. White also matches perfectly with the pastel coloured wardrobe that I have built up, and the possibilities are infinite.

I love how some girls can get away with their messy hair, a bra peeking out from under their dirty shirt from last night, a run in their stockings and a gloomy facial expression as a result from their huge hangover. Rock chicks fascinate me. But whenever I feel like getting dressed like that (mm.. minus the dirty shirt) I always end up adding pastel, cute stockings and a bright smile.

EVENT // Cosmo

Yesterday I attended the Cosmo mooiste benen van Nederland 2011 event. In other words: a contest about the prettiest Dutch legs strutting around in our little country. Although I was kind of sceptic about the whole thing - I generally don't like these kind of 'meat inspections' as I call them - the Cosmo team managed to put down a fun, light-heartedly event that even hit the front pages of the national papers!

The most important thing for me was that I met some incredibly fun, laid-back, creative and beautiful people! Sabrina, Xaviera, Zafiera, Nadja, Valentino and last but not least Christian - thanks for such a wonderful afternoon! I'm sure you'll be seeing them more often on my blog from now on.

For now, I'll leave you with a little bit of a sneak peek from the event. There's a lot more to follow, but I am off to Amsterdam in a bit - I won tickets for London Calling, a great festival in this club called Paradiso. So that's were you'll be spotting me tonight! Never thought I would actually be able to continue an art project.. Behold: the second part of the series Style in Sketches, and this time I have focused on
one of my biggest loves at the moment: the white boyfriend blazer.

You might have noticed that I have been wearing mine quite a lot lately - moreover, I have been wearing it to the point that it's showing tears and ripped fabric everywhere.

I wouldn't mind replacing my old blazer for this brilliant item from the Viktor & Rolf men's line.

Found the picture in GLAMOUR magazine. I used multiple pencils in the range of 2H-4B and finished it on my laptop by adding digital watercolour with my Wacom tablet.

OUTFIT // Ombre hair

Sooo.. You might have seen the little preview on my hair already, and here's the rest of the pictures. I have finally done it - I dipdyed my hair!

For this look, I simply made a small calculation..

Voilà, my new ombre hairstyle! It strongly reminded me of the My Little Pony horses from my childhood, and I love love love it! Especially because I have never done anything special to my hair ever before. The only downside is that, as we are speaking, the colour has washed out already - it's quite a task to maintain the colour. On the other hand, I'm able to try out different colours in a matter of days!

The only beautiful commercials in the world are perfume ads.
I love how the makers manage to convert a scent into images and sound.
Commercials are commercials, but these little clips are like artwork to me.

I especially love how Jean Paul Gaultier used the song 'Casta Diva' multiple times for his perfumes, while merging it together with completely different footage every time. Original shots, same overall feeling. A feeling of wanting to smell, look and live like a lady.

I wanted to introduce a new topic to you guys: I am going to select a few trends I am especially fond of and will be making a sketch of them. I used to make a series of blogger portraits and I might start on that series as well if I get the chance to.

I love how the turban is coming back into the fashion scene. I already scored a vintage woolen turban in 2009, but I was actually looking for an 'indoor' turban.

Therefore I was so happy to score this velvet burgundy (velvet! burgundy!!) piece - see me wearing it here.

Now I'd like to treat myself with a turban I can wear during the warmer seasons as well - I heard River Island had some pretty gorgeous pastel tinted turbans. Or maybe I should get a little bit wild by getting their leopard printed style? Who knows..

A friend of mine introduced me to a band called Foals. I am officially addicted. The song above is perfect for the coming seasons - relaxed, sunny and simply beautiful.

I felt like wearing something fit for Spring. Since the weather has only started to co-operate a little bit, I opted for light colours that might draw the sun a little bit closer to this part of the earth.

But who needs the weather if Spring's alive and kicking in your heart already, and the memory of the Italian sun freshly imprinted in your head? You don't need the burning sun and 30 degrees to wear pastels and whites. If you feel like it, just do it!

As we are speaking, it's already been Monday for 2 hours. So technically I shouldn't be calling this post a Sunday inspiration. But this weekend has gone by in a flash, and sadly enough college is awaiting in the early morning tomorrow. Therefore I am going to try to hold on to the weekend mood and pretend there won't ever be a Monday morning.

I'll probably regret it when morning does come, but at least I can daydream of this fabulous stuff below while I am trying to survive yet another Monday blues tomorrow.

And now, I am thrilled to tell you that I am going to ROME tomorrow!

I organized a trip to the most gorgeous city I have ever visited in honour of my boyfriend's birthday.. Super excited!!!

Rome is called the eternal city. Today's inspiration post will show you why.

The weeks fly by. Don't really know what's happening with time lately, it's like my life's in fastforwarding mode or something.

I went to Delft to see my boyfriend, he studies over there. We went to the movies, we saw Black Swan. After that we had to watch episodes of Scrubs until 2 in the morning to lose the wretched feeling we had after leaving the cinema. Black Swan might be the best, but at the same time the most horrifying, disturbing film I have ever seen. Bhhhhggrr.

However, we had a good time. We made a dinner out of the most random ingredients ever, and it actually tasted pretty good. Had breakfast with little buns out of the oven, some energy drink and red wine (hell yes we are so decadent.) I managed to ruin my eye contacts so I had the choice to run around like a blind chicken or wear my ugly glasses outside.

I opted for the first choice.
It didn't really work. I am really looking funny out of my eyes haha. Going to get myself a decent and fashionable pair of glasses soon, what do you think?

Meet my new vintage purchase: brown suede laceups! They're so comfy, and the laces are of the perfect colour. They were never worn and I got them at the heavenly price of 4,50. New daily fave.

The cardigan might be new to you as well - I bought it during Fashion Week on sale since I was cold and quickly needed something cheap and cosy. It's actually becoming a major staple to my wardrobe because of the interesting colour, who would have thought!

EVENT // AIFW: SUPERTRASH

And here we are, the post on the biggest show of AIFW 2011!

The well-known brand Supertrash (Dutch origin) got to close off with a marvellous show.

Hate her or love her, but designer Olcay Gulsen managed to put an impressive show on stage. The event started with off with footage from the roaring twenties, projected on lifesize screens. The rumbling music got the crowd in the mood, after which the models came in. And they kept coming! The collection was huge, and started with camel tones and floral prints.

On my wishlist: the little floral dress in the picture! The playsuits and longer pants were awesome, but I think that Supertrash often tends to become a little bit trashy at some point. The dresses and skirts were often way too short! Such a pity whenever you look at the quality of the fabrics and tailoring. My favorite leather jacket is from the hand of Supertrash (see the Velour post down below) and it's perfect!

The collection slowly diverged into the partywear. This part of the collection was kind of divided in, let's say 'super' and 'trash'. No pun intended. Some things I really, really wanted to have in my closet, and some dresses didn't even manage to cover the behinds of the petite models.

Nevertheless, Olcay Gulsen closed off with her well-known feel for glamour and said goodbye with a good portion of fireworks.

Like I said, hate it or love it. But you'll have to admit that she does have a feeling for drama, doesn't she?

We're finally getting close to the final show of last week's fashion week dearies! And I've saved the best for last.. Let me introduce you to the Swedish brand Velour! The brand showed in association with Volvo and this collaboration worked out great.

The fashion crowd was at it's most stylish this night. The highlight? Stylist Jean-Paul Paula rocking his D-Squared thigh highs with spine heels!

The collection consisted of both menswear and clothing for women. I personally preferred the menswear - Velour has proven that putting young people into an old fisherman's outfit can really look good. I especially loved the stylish colour combinations, the casual knitwear in combination with simple denim and nicely tailored jackets. Although I wouldn't want to see those little knitted hats back into the street, it really worked well on the runway. Laid-back, stylish show.

Isn't that mens clutch just to die for? I got word there is going to be introduced a bag like that at the H&M mens department.. Guess who'll be standing in line?

Decided to change the planning and post some stuff that doesn't involve fashion week.
Just a quick, cute outfit post to show off my red pumps! Decided to go for a softly coloured outfit to make those red colours pop.

I don't know how they did it, but these fresh new designers kept on surprising me with their collections last week! This is already part three of my report on AIFW and it's still about newbies! Amazing right?

And in my opinion, you're about to see one of the highlights of the fashion graduates collections. The Elise Kim show was my favorite by far, because her view on using fabric is beyond amazing! She didn't design mere clothes with her amazing fabrics.. She created artwork, pure artwork. I love people who think out of the box!

Love the 'woven' jackets and dresses, a piece like that would make the perfect eyecatcher on a party! By combining these extravagant pieces with more toned down, nicely tailored basics, Elise Kim succeeded in creating a collection that would definitely fit into my closet.

EVENT // AIFW #2

The first day of Fashion Week was a day full of rookies! I visited an event at a location I personally like really much - I am talking about Crème Fresh, held in an old printer building called 'Trouw'. I've been to several underground parties and concerts there, it's a very industrial setting and perfect to show a collection in.

And so did Lotte van Keulen, the first of three designers to have showed during Crème Fresh. It was her first collection and just like the designers of earlier that day I was surprised by the quality of her collection!

Velvet (you know how I adore that fabric!!), red leather in combination with sheer cream blouses, flowy capes, interesting prints and red eyeshadow. I liked this show. It wasn't extremely refreshing, but it indeed was extremely wearable.
Although I won't be able to pull of that velvet dress look. Worn by anyone else but a skinny model that dress would look lovely in the red light district. Such a shame, haha!

EVENT // AIFW #1

Hi dearies, so here's part one of the AIFW report!

At AIFW day 1 I visited the Roya Hesam and ZEM by Samira Algoe shows. The opinions on the shows were divided: especially Roya Hesam received both fantastic and horrible reviews. But I have to say that I thought the clothes were pretty. If you take into consideration that Roya Hesam got her bachelor degree in fashion design less than a year ago, it's quite impressive what she has accomplished already.

See for yourself!

Hesam managed to create a dreamy collection made out of sheer fabric in soft sea blue and creamy colours. The music playing during the show, the little tribal makeup details and the beautiful jewellery (me wanna!) all contributed to create this simple but beautiful world.

I especially loved Hesam's use of colour and fabric, she is well known for her inspiring combinations.

Right before the Roya Hesam show, another young designer called Samira Algoe got to show her ZEM menswear collection. A Hesam girl and ZEM boy would make a perfectly dressed couple, the colours really matched.

In contrast to Roya Hesam however, Samira Algoe showed a more Scandinavian kind of minimalism with fitted jackets and clear lines instead of loosely flowing fabric.

I especially loved the pastel colours on the models, I really hope that tailored pastel will become a mens trend! Love it.

Oh and someone please get me that tan leather duffle bag and baby blue cape.

So pretty.

I am exhausted. What an incredibly busy week! Not only have I been working my ass off at the hospital internship, I have also tried to attend as many Fashion Week events as possible! There are so many pictures to show, you're going to be spoiled with an excessive amount of posts dearies, haha.

There were four photographers and one camera man taking footage of what I was wearing! I am not used to that crazy fashion stuff guys.. Surrealistic!

The last three on the list were fresh fashion design graduates and I must say that they have impressed me! I'll be showing the pictures to you asap.

I am too excited for words.

I know I have been away for centuries once again, but this time I had a good reason.. Or wait, I even have two!

1. Amsterdam International Fashion Week. Attended it. Loads and LOADS Of pictures to come.
2. I COMPLETELY CHANGED THE BLOG!

I am so excited that I WANT TO TYPE EVERYTHING OUT LOUD BY USING CAPSLOCK.
But the huge changes that I made are because I felt ready for something new and more mature. So I'll try to hold back on my.. AHRRR.. CAPSLOCK.. TYPING.. URGE!

No seriously, I had been feeling like I had grown out of Stijlkind for quite a while now and I have finally taken the step. The name wasn't internationally oriented and I didn't like the sound of it at all after a while. So I came up with a name that fits the concept I want to carry out (and it sounds cool and intellectual, big plus haha.)

I already tried it out today at the Amsterdam International Fashion Week the moment people asked me about my blog: it felt great to say 'it's called concept of infinity!'

The content of the blog will basically be the same, except for the fact that I will be posting in a more structural way. If you've recently gone through the blog you might have noticed that I have been introducing some subjects that I will be updating on a weekly bases, next to the regular posts. The Wednesday Wannahave topic is a great example.

I'll be working on an extreme increase of quality AND quantity of my posts as well.

So, what do you think of the new name, fresh concept and crispy new layout? I would love to hear from you!

To make up for all the neglect I will be treating you with loads of AMFI pictures asap!

I fell in love with these shorts ever since I saw it on bonadrag. It's from Samantha Pleet, and the fabric has been treated like the Chinese have done it for centuries: burying china silk in mud for two months, and then dying it. This treatment gives the shorts a fascinating texture. Check out bonadrag for more.

These shorts have been chosen to be the first of a new series I came up with: Wednesday Wannahaves. I'll be picking my weekly favorites and will combine it in a collage.

Officially I don't have any time to blog this week, let alone to make any decent outfit pictures. But I decided that I needed some time off from studying, and the package that came in today left me to choice but to take some pictures!

It's a new Whistles jumper woooop! I CRAVED for this jumper. It had exactly the features I was looking for - boxy yet drapey, warm and in the perfect powder nude colour. And big plus: 100% cashmere wool. Super soft! But I thought it was too expensive for a jumper, so when I found it on sale at ASOS.com I was totally exstatic. It was a pity that they didn't have my size anymore, so I decided to take a guess and order it two sizes too big..

And now I am in doubt. What should I do? Should I keep it or is it simply too much boxy? I am afraid that I am suffering from a syndrome called I-love-it-so-much-that-I-want-to-keep-it-despite-the-fact-that-it-doesn't-fit-my-body... Sounds familiar? Therefore I need your honest opinion!

LIFE // FOOD AND LIGHTS.

This year was one of the most special Christmasses (eh, plural form of Christmas?) ever. Our family's Christmas didn't start off like they sing it in the cheesy songs you hear on the radio each and every December. No, despite the fact that we are all blondies in my family, we might as well have Spanish roots.. Considering our temperament.

But no matter how much we argue, there is always a strong and unconditional love that binds us. In the end, the love we have for each other always saves the day. And we enjoyed Christmas to the fullest. Together. Because Christmas is essentially not about the amount of presents you get. It's about loving, giving, and cherishing the time you have with each other.

I spent my time wisely, accompanied by my family and boyfriend. We had a taste of the most lovely food, and we were surrounded by utterly gorgeous decorations. And yes, although it's not a fundament of Christmas, we gave and received a lot of presents. But you'll get to see enough of that in the coming days! On to the food and lights!

First of all, I wanted to thank everyone for the kind wishes and messages, I will get back to every one of you when I get the time to! Thank you thank you thank you!!

Now, on to the pictures!

The first thing to do in the morning whenever it's your birthday, is to get in a festive mood with your favorite perfume and nice music, and the best breakfast you can imagine.

When I was young, I loved handing out lollipops and other candy on my big day. This year I decided to reintroduce the tradition and I baked a walnut marble cake and cute little cupcakes. I just loved the recipe of the cupcakes: espresso chocolate with coffee liquor icing on top. Thanks to the lovely Heleen who took the effort to type it out for me, after I had seen her cupcakes on her blog!

And this is what I wore on my birthday. Heels, off course. and lots of colours!
I'm going to take a closeup picture from my new H&M necklace soon, I had to have it when I spotted the last one in the store and immediately wanted to wear it on my birthday. Oh I'm so childish (but don't you just love those moments of plain immature happiness?)

And last but certainly not least.. Zhe boy gave me tickets for the biggest festival in the Netherlands! It's called Lowlands, and it sold out within 2 hours last month.. I was so disappointed when I heard about the sellout, but he secretly got his tickets in the first 15 minutes!

As a surprise, we had dinner in a cute little restaurant in a small village nearby. Yummy pasta.

My birthday ended at 4AM, in the midst of friends. And I was the most exhausted but happy girl in the world.

I am counting down the days until next year already. ♥

LIFE // BIRTHDAY #1

It's been two days already, but December 14th was my 19th birthday! I had such an amazing time that I didn't even get the time to post... Just crazy.

The night before the big day I spent my time baking a walnut marble cake and chocolate espresso cupcakes until 1 AM at night (slightly miscalculated the time it would take to make both.. Failure).
The 14th was such an amazing day that lasted until 4 in the morning - I had some friends who practically invited themselves over at my home, which was the cutest thing. I was totally worn out afterwards though, haha!
And the nightlife marathon didn't end that day, because I hit my bed this morning at half past four.. The result of a girl's night out..

So, a short summary on my life from the past three days, and an excuse for the lack of a birthday post *shame*

I have so many birthday pictures to show you, but I'll leave you with a little preview on my makeup from that day. Went for a softer look than you know me by, with earth tone lipstick and blush, and a brown smokey eye.

Recipe of the day
You take a little black dress.
You mix it up with black tights, black shoes, a black jacket.
You add a hint of red lipstick.
Put it all together with a tad of grunge, and approximately 450 grams of lace.
Let it stir for a while.
After it has cooled down, you can take your killer look outside.

After following these instructions you should have a vampy look that is easily made, comfy, powerful, and yet super feminine.

In other words, a look you can always fall back on.

PS I got some questions about who takes my pictures. Well, it's pretty random! I use my self-timer a lot and there are a lot of sweet people around me that love to help me with my pictures: mainly my boyfriend, my little sisters, friends etc.. These pictures were actually shot by my daddy! Isn't he the sweetest?

PPS It's going to be my 19th birthday next Tuesday. Excited! Be on the lookout for my birthday outfit and more..!

I loved this song at the time it was released (now nine years ago), so I was excited to hear this lovely cover from Mads Langer.

Khaki green maxi dress, Primark. Striped shirt, H&M mens department (I think). Boots, ZARA. Leather jacket, Supertrash. Random scarf, shield ring from Primark.

I always thought khaki green was a colour for brunettes. But it actually looks pretty good on blondes as well! Like it? There's more khaki to come soon!

I've seen a lot of bloggers do it: making their own maxi skirts. It might be a necessary thing to do for me as well - I'm too tall for every confection store maxi skirt! I'm wearing this high waisted one on my hips right now.. And it's still too short. Grrrahhhhh..

The upside is that there'll might be a little DIY in store for you..

Classic navy coat, River Island. Grey knitted jumper, H&M. Vintage oversized men's blouse. Vintage leather waist belt. Boots, ZARA. Vintage bag. Hat, H&M. Can't remember what lipstick I was wearing, and where the hell I got the idea from to do my nails in twotone

Today's song is a classic. This version of The Cure's Close to Me dates from 1985, but it's timeless. I can listen to it daily, I don't think I'll get tired of it. And it inspires me in so many ways!

Since classic is today's word for me, I opted for classic pieces for this outfit. A navy jacket with golden buttons, a conservative knitted jumper, a vintage bag that resembles the Godmother of classic bags - the Chanel 2.55. To top it off, I added a tad of bright red lipstick and an old-fashioned hat to give it a little French twist. In other words, total overkill of classiness. Mmm, I love overkill.

Anyone who knows The Cure, knows that the word 'classic' doesn't apply in the same ways for their music, and this outfit. But I think that the esssential key word of a classic is timeless. I mentioned it before: it's interesting to mix up classics from different eras, whether it is musical inspiration or literally a mix-up of a 90s denim jacket and a 60s maxi dress.

In my opinion, time clash is going to become the next classic.

I think I need to inject my wardrobe with a little bit of leopard.

Picture credit: I simply can't remember where all these pictures came from because they've been on my computer for ages.. Except for the Stockholmstreetstyle footage.

The leopard subject came to mind because this Dutch old lady, that used to be in a funny real-life soap about a typical Amsterdam family, passed away last week. She really was awesome - at the age of 82 she wore animal print ONLY. Rest in peace, Nel.

EVENT // PATRIZIA PEPE.

Because of last week's lack of posting I decided to make up by posting an item with a picture overload! I attended the Patrizia Pepe showroom event yesterday and wanted to share this with you pretty badly, so here we go!

This was my first press event ever and I was pretty nervous because of the expectations I had of such an event.. I expected to enter a room full of gorgeous clothes, fashion people and fellow bloggers and that idea made me slightly high-strung. But when I entered the big hall, the only thing that lived up to my expectations were the clothes. The room was literally EMPTY! Really confusing. Nevertheless, this gave me the chance to roam around in the entire new collection of Patrizia Pepe, and I must say I loved it to bits!

The collection mainly consisted of the colours we have seen in a lot of SS10 collections: powder pink, khaki and mint. At this point I'm a fan already, I die for pastel palettes! But it doesn't end here. Because Patrizia Pepe is often all about popping colours, the collection contains a tad of coral and floral print as well. And to give it that typical Patrizia Pepe glam touch, the designers added items loaded with embellishments and crocodile structured leather. Sounds good? I'd say it does.

I managed to take a picture of the showroom for you, but you'll have to be a little bit patient for the actual pictures of the looks. I'm going to do a detailed post in about a month and a half about the newest PP collection. Be on the lookout.. the butter-soft leather tanktop dress with cutout details, buckled wedges in camel and grey leather snakeskin bag made my heart skip a beat. Can't waint to share it with you!

To keep you occupied I took a few pictures of the collection that's in stores now.

Asymmetric leather jackets, sequins, tweed, do I need to say more? HELL YEAH. See that dusty-pink faux fur coat in the back? I think I need that coat in my life in order to survive...!

Radiohead is one of my favorite bands and one of my biggest inspirations.

Just a quick outfit post. Pictures were shot by zhe boyfriend on a random parking lot in Delft. We were on our way home and I was like "We need to pull over NOW!! I forgot to take pictures" and Yapkan (zhe boyfriend) drifted the Volvo right into a car park to take some shots. He's such a sweetheart (but he'd only wish he could drift with the Volvo like that, hehehe).
